Haditha Massacre

US Marines are accused of killing 24 innocent civillians last November in the town of Haditha, northwest of Bagdhad. On November 19th, a roadside bomb struck a humvee carrying Marines from Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, on a road near Haditha. The bomb killed Lance Corporal Miguel (T.J.) Terrazas, 20, from El Paso, Texas. On Nov. 20, a U.S. Marines spokesman issued a statement saying that on the previous day a roadside bomb had killed 15 civilians and a Marine. In a later gunbattle, U.S. and Iraqi troops killed eight insurgents, he said. The US military no longer supports the origiinal story, as different accounts have been brought to the media's attention. Reportedly, eyewitnesses state that the Marines went on a rampage near the site of the explosion, killing 24 people, including woman, children, and a blind man in a wheelchair. The US military needs to get to the bottom of this, as this is a scandal that could be much larger than Abu Ghraib. It is a tragedy that a young soldier was killed, and that tragedy is multiplied exponentially if innocent civillians were killed in retribution.
