Happy Holidays

Last weekend we had our annual Christmas celebration in downtown Denver with a group of close friends. The evening started with drinks at the Peaks Lounge in the Hyatt. The Peaks Lounge is on the 27th floor and has great views of Denver and the mountains. It also gave us a (warm) birds eye view of the Parade of Lights. From there, we headed to Buca Di Beppo for more drinks, food, and a white elephant gift exchange. The gift exchange is typically the highlight of the party, and this year was no exception. The Ace Hi Tavern t-shirt with accompanying gift certificate for a back rub (including a happy ending this year) from Joe Kuter showed up again. For the second year another t-shirt with Kuter's picture was a gift. The t-shirt featured a picture of a bearded Kuter in a chicken dance pose with the words, "Don't You Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Me" printed on it. After dinner, some of us headed back to the Peaks Lounge for more chat and drinks. The weekend put me in the holiday mood, so I thought I would put together a Christmas music mix to share with all of you. Merry Christmas!

This is a great Christmas song list! The only missing song is the 12 days of Christmas by the Muppets. :)

Great addition with the muppets. I would add Merry Christmas from the Family by Robert Earl Keen. Not that well known but makes me laugh.

Amy - The Muppet's Christmas special with John Denver was one of my favorite Christmas shows as a kid. Miss Piggy always sang the five golden rings line and added a "badum bum bum" at the end. If I had it, I would have added it to the list, fo sho.

Josh - Don't know if I have heard that one, but Robert Earl Keen ain't half bad.

Crosby and Bowie Little Drummer Boy! I know you chose that for the cheezy ass video they made for the song. Classic. Also, why is it called a white elephant gift exchange?

Axel F - The video is the reason why I included the song.

Per Wikipedia, "a white elephant is a supposedly valuable possession whose cost (particularly cost of upkeep) exceeds its usefulness, and it is therefore a liability. The term derives from the sacred white elephants kept by traditional Southeast Asian monarchs in Burma, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. To possess a white elephant was regarded (and still is regarded, in Thailand and Burma) as a sign that the monarch was ruling with justice and the kingdom was blessed with peace and prosperity. The tradition derives from tales in the scriptures which associate a white elephant with the birth of Buddha. Because the animals were considered sacred and laws protected them from labor, receiving a “gift” of a white elephant from a monarch was both a blessing and a curse: a blessing because of the animal’s sacred nature and a curse because the animal could be put to no practical use."

So I guess the white elephant gift exchange just means that you give some worthless gifts, although ours has some really nice gifts as well as gags.
