NFL Breakdown

I haven't written much about sports recently, so if figured I would write a quick post about the NFL. After 10 weeks of play, a few teams have risen to the top of the NFL, and unlike past seasons, there aren't any undefeated or one loss teams remaining. Thus, it is much harder to tell which teams are most likely to make it to the playoffs and the Superbowl. Here are the top tier teams that I think have the talent and coaching (and some luck) to win it all.

AFC

Baltimore

They are playing with a high intensity, and I wouldn't bet against them in any game, especially at home, where they are undefeated. They have three losses, but two of those were to New England (in OT) and Atlanta.

New England

The Patriots are also undefeated at home this year and once again showing that the combination of Bill Belicheck and Tom Brady is tough to beat regardless of whom else is on the team (bye bye Moss). Their two losses were to the Jets and, surprisingly, to the Browns, but that was mainly due to Peyton Hillis stomping all over the Pats (so glad we traded him, way to go Coach McD).

NY Jets

This is one of the luckiest teams I can remember, but like they say, you make your own luck. They squeaked out overtime or last second wins against Denver, Detroit, Cleveland, and Houston. But, their only two losses are to other top tier teams (Baltimore and Green Bay). I just don't know if the Jets can count on getting the lucky breaks in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh

Once again, the Steelers post season hopes ride on the defense. If they can get Coloradan Aaron Smith (torn triceps) back for the playoffs and Polamalu and Timmons healthy too, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Their only weakness is their offensive line.

Others to watch:

Indianapolis - you can't count out a team with Payton Manning at the helm, no matter how banged up the team is.

NFC

Atlanta

The Falcons' two losses were to top tier teams (Pitt in OT and Philly). They are also undefeated at home and have wins against Baltimore and New Orleans.

Green Bay

The losses to Chicago, Washington, and Miami are pretty glaring, but they were all by a filed goal and two of the games went to OT. Green Bay has quality wins against Philly and the Jets (shutout). Next week's game against Atlanta should be a great matchup.

Philly

This is looking like the team to beat in the NFC right now. In two of their three losses, the starting QB was knocked out of the game. When Vick has played a complete game, they are undefeated.

Others to Watch

New Orleans

They seem to be pulling out of their post Super Bowl hangover, so we will have to see if they turn it on during the remainder of the season. A coach and QB tandem that is second to only the Patriots.

NY Giants

Turnovers have been the Achilles heel of this team. Can they hold onto the ball all the way to the Super Bowl?
